The Impact of Medical Students' Metacognitive Awareness Level on Their Academic Performance

Background: Metacognition influences the academic performance of medical students. The objective our study was to determine metacognitive awareness level students in different groups physiology course and develop a guideline on that basis provide support.Methods: A 52-items inventory (MAI) devised by Schraw Dennison used assess metacognition low (<70%), average (70-84%), high performing (>85%) at Trinity Medical Sciences University (TMSU).Results: Sixty-four participated study. significant positive correlation (rs=0.462) found between total MAI score final course. High reported significantly higher declarative knowledge (p=0.001); procedural (p=0.048); implementation strategies (p=0.003); correction (p=0.000) evaluation effectiveness subscale than their counterparts. Compared students, performers were superior terms (p=0.006), better planning (p=0.047), monitoring (p=0.008) (0.004) learning process.Conclusions: Metacognitive has impact Low need improve both while should augment knowledge. In regulation cognition, implementation, correction, skills make other improving evaluating skills.
